About Us:

Joint Efforts to Save the Environment (JESE), is a national Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) established in 1993 with a desire to increase household food security, through sustainable agricultural production and livelihood improvement amongst the rural communities. Other JESE thematic areas of focus include Natural Resources Management, Governance and Energy, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Youth Skills Development. Our work spans 2 decades, operating in Western Uganda, Albertine region, and in Northern Uganda.

JESE partnered with Integrated Seed Sector Development (ISSD) Uganda to provide staff for the implementation of activities under the CommonGround project in Rwenzori region. CommonGround is a four-year (2022-2026) land restoration and farming systems project that aims at building resilient farmer communities and watersheds in the highlands of Uganda, based on sustainable farming systems, restored watersheds and improved marketing opportunities.

The project requires the recruitment of an additional Field Officer to undertake implementation of project activities in River Yerya watershed in Bunyangabu District.

Job Summary:  

The PIP Field Officer responsible for ensuring that project activities are effectively implemented. S/he will also be involved in designing strategies, coordinating stakeholders and implementation of activities as well as contributing to organization- wide learning. The PIP Field Officer will work in collaboration with local communities, government, Development Partners, Civil Society and other stakeholders to achieve empowered and motivated households, better performing farming systems, empowered and motivated farmer communities, restored degraded hotspots, effective Sub watershed management, improved watershed management, improved market Access, farmers generating income from crop and viable entrepreneurial groups.

Roles of the Field Officer

The selected candidate will have the following tasks/roles;

  • Conduct community awareness and mobilization meetings
  • Creating PIP in targeted villages/communities
  • Conduct assessment of current farming systems at village level
  • Facilitating meetings to develop village visions (Plans)
  • Facilitating implementation of village vision/work plans
  • Conduct meetings to organize villages to restore degraded hot spots
  • Facilitating establishment of tree nurseries in each village
  • Facilitating establishment of sub-watershed committees
  • Conduct support and extension on restoration activities with sub watershed committees
  • Facilitating development of sub-watershed visions and action plans
  • Facilitating formation of watershed platform/committees
  • Facilitate development of watershed visions and action plans
  • Collect data for agro-ecological and farming systems
  • Conduct on farm training and extension on agroecological practices

Qualification, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in community development, natural resource management, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Land use and management and agroforestry.
  • Experience in working with local communities of not less than 5 years in related projects/programs.
  • Experience with relevant technical models such as integrated farm planning/PIP, INRM and catchment management.
  • Demonstration of well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Effective planning and report writing skills.
  • Experience in community work and engagement Agricultural, Economic Development and Livelihood is and added advantage
  • Sustainable agriculture, land use and management and strong agribusiness skill.
  • Able to fluently speak English and the local languages spoken in the target areas
  • Able to work effectively with less supervision
  • Able to work effectively with multiple partners including (local leaders, government (parish, sub-county, village officials), other NGOs, value chain actors in the communities.
  • Flexible and able to reside in the area of operation
  • Ability to ride a motorcycle and MUST have a valid riding permit.
